CruDiv 13 less BIRMINGHAM plus DENVER formed a column screened by the OAKLAND, BELL, BURNS, BRADFORD, and CRAVEN with Rear Admiral L. T. DU BOSE in SANTA FE as O.T.C. The task unit (58.1.7) steamed on various courses and speeds near Saipan during the night. 1800 Commenced forming column with CruDiv 13 less U.S.S. BIRMINGHAM. Standard distance 1,000 yards. DENVER third ship in column. Screen consisting of U.S.S. OAKLAND, BELL, BURNS, BRADFORD, and CRAVEN took station ahead. OTC of this Task Unit Rear Admiral L. T. DuBose, USN, in SANTA FE. 1821 Slowed to 10 knots. 1830 Changed course to the left to 290o T (PGC) by column movement. LOUISVILLE (SOPA) and various units of the Pacific Fleet, yard and district craft, cargo ships and landing craft.
