Wolverine

An American mammal found mostly in the northern United States. The state of Michigan is known as the "Wolverine State."

Michigan (q.v.), the Navy's first iron-hulled warship, was renamed Wolverine on 17 June 1905 to clear the name Michigan for Battleship No. 27. On 17 July 1920, Wolverine was designated IX-31.
