Anchor (ARS-13) was launched 13 March 1943 by Colberg Boat Works, Stockton, Calif., sponsored by Mrs. Hattie M. Stevenson, and commissioned 23 October 1943 Lieutenant R.S. Brunner, USNR, in command.

Between January 1944 and June 1945 Anchor operated out of Pearl Harbor, Eniwetok, Tinian, and Saipan on salvage and clearance duty. She arrived off Okinawa 8 June and conducted salvage operations on sunken Japanese shipping and Vandalia (IX-191) until February 1946

Leaving Okinawa 23 February 1946 Anchor proceeded to Seattle, where she went out of commission 16 September 1946. She was transferred to the Maritime Commission 23 May 1947.

Anchor received one battle star for her service at Okinawa.
