LST-489 was reclassified ARL2, 13 January 1943; launched 2 April 1943 by Kaiser Co., Inc., Richmond, Calif.; converted into a landing craft repair ship by Matson Navigation Co., San Francisco, Calif., and commissioned 30 July 1943 as Amycus, Lieute nant J. J. Beidy, Jr., USNR, in command.

Amycus departed San Diego 20 September to join Service Force, 7th F1eet, in the South Pacific. Through late 1944 she serviced and repaired landing craft in New Guinea waters. She arrived in Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands, 9 January 1945 and rem ained there until 26 June tending landing and patrol craft. Between 28 June and 27 October 1945 she carried out similar duties in Subic Bay, Philippine Islands. She returned to San Francisco 30 November 1945 and went out of commission into reserve 15 Nove mber 1946, berthed with the Columbia River Reserve Group.

Amycus received two battle stars for her service in the Pacific.
