Concept/Program: A small multirole carrier, based on the Spanish Principe de Asturias class design, and built in Spain. She can serve as a disaster relief ship, troop transport/assault ship, and has accomodations for the royal family.

Design: A reduced version of Principe de Asturias, with various improvments and modernization of features. Three 6-cell Sadral SAM launchers are to be added.

Built by E.N. Bazan. Laid down 12 July 1994, launched 20 Jan 1996, delivered 27 March 1997, commissioned 10 August 1997.

Has been largely inactive due to lack of crew and operating funds.
