CASTLE Class

corvette

An improvement on the standard revised corvette, the CASTLE Class was larger and more comfortable, and had more sheer at the bow which improved seakeeping. They were also built with improved radar and sonar, a new gun, and the best ASW weapon of the war: the Squid ASW mortar.

Propulsion: 2 water tube boilers, 1 4-cyl. triple expansion steam engine, 2750 hp., 16.5 knots 
Range: 9,500 nm at 10 knots 
Crew: 112 
Radar: Type 272,  Type 277 in COPPER CLIFF and BOWMANVILLE 
Sonar: Type 144Q, Type 147B (both needed to control Squid) 
Fire Control:
EW: HF/DF 
Armament: 1 4" QF Mk.XIX HA/LA single, 2 20mm twin guns, 2 20mm single guns, 1 Squid ASW mortar, 1 depth charge rail, 15 depth charges.

HUNTSVILLE. The main visual differences between the CASTLE class and the older FLOWER class ships are the new bow with more flare, the platform in front of the bridge for the Squid launcher, the heavier lattice mast, and a fo'c'st'le that extends farther aft.
