IX C Type

(SS) submarine

These two German submarines surrendered to the RCN in May of 1945. Both were soon commissioned in the RCN for evaluation purposes. Early in 1946, U 889 was turned over to the USN, and she was sunk in torpedo tests off the New England coast in 1947. U 190 was paid off in 1947, and that October she was sunk by naval aircraft near where she had sunk HMCS EQUIMALT.
