BAY Class

(MM/PB) Minesweeper/Patrol Boat

Built as minesweepers during the early to late 1950s, the minesweeping gear and gun were later removed and the ships were relegated to patrol and training purposes. The last of these ships were paid off in late 1998. They were replaced by the new MCDVs.

HMCS MIRIMICHI (3rd) served on the West Coast as a part of Training Group Pacific until recently. The minesweeping gear can be seen on the quarterdeck, and a 40mm Bofors can be seen just aft of the funnel. This gun was removed when she joined the training group.
