Haze Gray Mystery Picture #111 Answer

 [MYSTERY IMAGE]

Can You Identify This Ship?

This is the aircraft carrier Ranger (CV 4), seen in drydock prior to WWII.

Ranger was the first purpose-built US carrier, and was intended as a smaller, more efficient design, compared to the large carriers being converted from battlecruisers. Experience soon showed, however, that large carriers were more effective. Large carrier designs followed, leaving Ranger as the smallest US fleet carrier. During WWII she saw service in the Atlantic, primarily on convoy duty, and as a training carrier. She was decommissioned and scrapped soon after the war.
