Length: 292’ Beam: 31’ Draft: 25’ Speed: 20+ k. (surfaced and submerged) Complement: 99 Armament: 4 21” torpedo tubes; SUBROC Class: STURGEON The second QUEENFISH (SSN-651) was laid down by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., 11 May 1964; launched 25 February 1966; sponsored by Hon. Julia Butler Hansen, Congresswoman from the State of Washington; and commissioned 6 December 1966, Comdr. Jackson B. Richard in command. Assigned a homeport and homeyard of Pearl Harbor, QUEENFISH reported to the Atlantic Fleet for onward routing to the Pacific Fleet. She serves with the Pacific Fleet into 1970 as a nuclear-powered attack submarine guarding this nation against the undersea forces of potential enemies. [QUEENFISH was deactivated, while still in commission, on 27 September 1990 and both decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 8 November 1991. She went through the Navy’s Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program at Bremerton, Washington from 1 May 1992 to 7 April 1993. When she finished the program, she ceased to exist as a complete ship and was listed as scrapped.
