Montana

Authorized 4 March 1917, Montana (BB-51) was laid 1 September 1920; but construction of the South Dakota-class battleship by Mare Island Navy Yard, Vallejo, Calif., was canceled 8 February 1922 by the Washington Treaty on the limitati on of naval armament. Montana was struck from the Navy List 24 August 1923 and sold 25 October 1923 to be scrapped.
