Matanzas
An inlet of the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Matanzas River which separates Anastasia Island from the mainland of Florida south of St. Augustine.


The name Matanzas was assigned to a Barnegat-class small seaplane tender 23 August 1942. Under a contract dated 14 April 1942, AVP-46 was authorized to be built by Lake Washington Shipyard, Houghton, Wash., but the contract was canceled 29 April 1943 prior to the start of construction.
