Accelerate (ARS-30) was built in 1921 by Kyle and Purdy, City Island, N. Y., as Toteco ( later renamed Walling); purchased 2 April 1942 ; and commissioned 15 March 1945.

Declared surplus in February 1946, Accelerate was operated by Merritt-Chapman and Scott Co., under contract until transferred to the War Shipping Administration 28 August 1947.
