Her increased combat vehicular lift and landing capability will bolster the strength of amphibious forces in the Pacific and will strengthen the resolve of the forces of freedom in the continuing struggle to detect and repel godless communism in Southeast Asia or elsewhere in the Far East, which currently faces the menace of Chinese communism. She was leased to Taiwan on 10 July 1996, refitted at Newport News, renamed CHUNG HO (Hull No. 232), and commissioned into the Taiwanese Navy on 8 May 1997.] Internet Web Sites: Naval Vessel Register www.nvr.navy.mil/nvrships/details/LST1180.htm United States Naval & Shipbuilding Museum www.uss-salem.org/worldnav/usa/decom.htm#amph “Jane’s Fighting Ships, 1999-2000,” p.688 Transcribed by Michael Hansen mhansen2@home.com
